Salmon, Shad and Sturgeon trips

Willamette – The Willamette was a good start in May producing both up in Oregon City and in the Multnomah Channel.  In Oregon City back bouncing shrimp or prawns was good as was anchoring fishing with spinners, herring, shrimp or prawns.  The channel produced with spinners and herring.
Columbia – Sturgeon fishing was great, oversize were being taken in many areas and a few keepers in the mix.  You need to move around a lot in search of the fish.  For keepers the bait was squid and anchovies, while oversize was mainly Shad but a few on squid.  The Shad have doing steady in about 10-13 feet of water.  In the darker days bright spoons work while in the sun light two toned colors worked well.

Next Up:  June will see Shad and oversize increase.  If water temperatures rise the Walleye will be on the bite.
