March 2010
Salmon nothing but Salmon and a few Sturgeon trips
Willamette – Sturgeon fishing was steady on the Willamette. The lower section kicked out some nice fish especially towards the end of the month before the closure. Bait of choice was sand shrimp. I was able to get in a few trips in the Channel and lower section with good success Salmon fishing. Herring was the bait of choice.
Columbia – The Columbia for Springer’s was great. Fished from the I5 bridge down the best spot was Davis Bar followed second by the Railroad bridge. All fish were caught on cut plug herring except one caught on a spinner. Flashers varied it was 50% of the time I caught fish using a flasher and 50% just running the bait. The key was being right on the bottom.
Next Up: April will be about Salmon until the closure on the Columbia then the Willamette will be the only go to place.
