January 2010
Steelhead and Sturgeon were on for January

Willamette – Both the lower section and Multnomah Channel produced lots of fish and many keepers.  I averaged 1.3 keepers per trip in January.  Anchovies still seem to be my go to bait with Squid a close second.
Columbia – Ventured out late into the month looking for Sturgeon in the Rainer to Trojan area with good success surprisingly Anchovies worked well and smelt I expect to see smelt grow in the first part of Feb as they arrive to the Cowlitz.
Cowlitz – Early on got a few trips in at Blue Creek with good success all Steelhead caught drifting eggs and a size 8 to 10 Corkie.
Lewis – Was able to get a few trips in with mixed results on the Lewis.  A lot of rainbows were caught and a mix of steelhead mostly under size.  Primarily drift fished the Lewis with eggs and sand shrimp.
Clackamas – The Clackamas was also hit and miss.  Ended up switching to the sled as water was so fast it was hard to get a good drift in the driftboat.  Did manage to pull a few Steelhead out all caught back trolling plugs which is surprising drift fishing usually produces the fish.

Next Up:  February I will be targeting Sturgeon in the Rainer area until the smelt run is over then back on the Willamette.  Steelhead will be good on the Sandy, Clackamas and Lewis Rivers.

NOTE:  I will send an update once I see the regs for Sturgeon.
